Kolkata : Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Abhishek Banerjee, alleging that Mamata Banerjee’s nephew had dropped him as his lawyer at the eleventh hour in the ongoing signature forgery case. The Calcutta High Court on Thursday granted Abhishek, who is still in Delhi, interim protection from arrest in the forgery case and directed him to appear before the West Bengal CID by 6 pm today.
“I am with Mamata Di, but she needs to choose now. It is too humiliating. At midnight, I was told the lawyer had been changed. He doesn’t know how to respect seniors. Abhishek never trusted me, and he will never trust me. Who is he? Such an arrogant person. For him, the party has been destroyed,” Kalyan told India Today. Kalyan Banerjee claimed that he was present when the CID raided Mamata Banerjee’s residence while she was in Delhi in connection with the alleged TMC signature forgery case.
He said that he had filed a petition challenging the CID’s search operations. However, he claimed that before he could appear for the hearing, he was informed that another advocate, Kishore Datta, would be representing the case. Enraged by the sudden development, Kalyan Banerjee told India Today that he would no longer appear on behalf of Abhishek, pointing out that he was handling both the forgery case and the CID search operations case as they are interlinked.
Kalyan Banerjee further said that he was informed by his son, Sirsanya, on Wednesday night, while preparing for today’s hearing, that he was no longer required to appear in the forgery case and had been replaced by another lawyer. At 12:30 last night, my son got a call, and he was informed that junior advocate Ayan would argue this case. I have clearly said I will not stay with him (Abhishek).
