India Finish Second At Asian U20 Athletics Championships with 19-Medal Haul

Hong Kong: India wrapped up an impressive campaign at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships by securing second place in the overall medal tally after collecting three more gold medals on the final day of competition.

The Indian contingent finished the four-day event with a total of 19 medals, comprising 10 gold, five silver and four bronze medals. China topped the standings with 25 medals, including 14 gold, nine silver and two bronze. Japan secured third position with 18 medals, winning five gold, five silver and eight bronze medals.

According to PTI, India also added two silver medals and one bronze medal on the concluding day of the championship.

Women’s 4x400m Relay Team Sets Meet Record

One of the standout performances came from the Indian women’s 4x400m relay team. The quartet of Bhumika Sanjay Nehate, Tahura Khatun, Sehnoor Bawa and anchor runner Neeru Pathak clinched the gold medal with a timing of 3 minutes 38.07 seconds.

Their effort broke the previous meet record of 3:38.20, which had been set by Japan in 2018.

Men’s Relay Team Wins Bronze with Record-Breaking Time

The men’s 4x400m relay event witnessed a high-quality contest, with all three medal-winning teams surpassing the previous meet record of 3:07.38 established by Japan in 1999.

China secured the gold medal in 3:04.88, while Qatar finished second with a timing of 3:05.06. India claimed bronze after clocking 3:05.54.

The Indian team featured Piyush Raj, Sayed Sabeer, Ranjith Kumar S and Mohammed Ashfaq.

Muskan and Venkatram Reddy Mogali Strike Gold

India’s gold-medal rush on the final day began in the morning session when Muskan captured the women’s 5,000m title. She crossed the finish line in 16:53.08 to claim the top spot on the podium.

Venkatram Reddy Mogali then added another gold medal in the men’s 800m event. He produced a personal-best performance, clocking 1:48.27.

Nishchay Settles for Silver in Discus Throw

In the men’s discus throw competition, Nishchay narrowly missed out on the gold medal. He registered a personal-best throw of 60.10m but had to settle for silver.

India also earned a silver medal in the women’s 4x100m relay. The team of Kajal Hirabhai Vaja, Bhavana G, Aarti and Nipam finished second with a timing of 45.05 seconds.

PTI reported that India’s strong showing throughout the championship highlighted the growing depth of the country’s young athletics talent pool and contributed to its second-place finish in the overall standings.
