Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla And Vikram Misri To Attend Tarique Rehman’s Swearing-In-Ceremony In Dhaka

New Delhi : As the BNP returned to power in Dhaka, India was represented by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh elected PM and BNP chief Tarique Rahman on Tuesday.

Following which lok sabha speaker will be accompanied by foreign secretary Vikram Misri as confirmed by ANI sources.

The event will take place at the South Plaza of the National Parliament as the party witnessed massive victory in the general election 2026.

Why Is PM Modi Not Attending The Ceremony?

PM Modi won’t be able to attend the swearing-in ceremony on February 17 which is to be held in Dhaka as he would be attending France President Emmanuel Macron in India. Due to his prior commitment he would stay back to converse on technology and global cooperation with Macron. However, he decided to send Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on his behalf. The decision shows that India wants to stay actively involved in regional developments while managing its global diplomatic commitments.

Bangladesh has sent invitations for leaders of 13 countries including India. This comes amid flickering relations between India and Bangladesh after the reign of Former PM Sheikh Hasina being dethroned from the country and is in exile in India due to her safety concerns.

During this course, Hasina’s rival party BNP has secured power in Dhaka and the future between the changing times will be under watch.
