IMD Heatwave Alert: Temperatures Cross 40°C Across India

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department has issued a widespread heatwave alert as temperatures in multiple parts of the country have crossed the 40 degrees Celsius mark. According to a report by Business Standard, the weather agency has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to intensify across several states in the coming days.

As per Business Standard, the IMD indicated that a larger number of heatwave days than usual is expected this year. The rising temperatures are already being recorded across northern, central, and some western regions, with forecasts suggesting further increases.

The department noted that prevailing weather patterns are contributing to the surge in temperatures, with dry conditions dominating large parts of the country. In addition, heatwave conditions are expected to gradually spread eastward, affecting more regions over time.

Reports cited by Business Standard, along with inputs from agencies, highlight that such extreme weather conditions could pose health risks, especially for vulnerable groups. Authorities have advised people to take necessary precautions, including avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun and staying hydrated.

The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and has urged residents to stay updated with official forecasts and advisories. While certain parts of the country may also experience isolated rainfall and thunderstorms, the overall trend indicates a rise in temperatures and continued heat stress in many regions.

The alert underscores the early onset of intense summer conditions in India, with experts pointing to the need for preparedness as temperatures are expected to remain high in the coming weeks.
