In a chilling case of post-divorce vengeance, a man allegedly forced entry into his ex-wife’s home in Hyderabad and stabbed her to death, driven by resentment over a domestic violence complaint that had blocked his return to Canada.
The 29-year-old victim, a software engineer, had divorced the accused in 2024 after their 2022 marriage and remarried in April 2025. According to a complaint by her second husband, she was three months pregnant at the time of the attack, though police await post-mortem confirmation to verify this.
The accused, in his 30s and formerly employed at an IT firm in Canada, blamed his ex-wife for the legal troubles that followed her domestic violence filing in Maharashtra. This led to a look-out circular and passport suspension, preventing him from re-entering Canada. He returned to India in March 2025 after his mother’s death, which he attributed in part to the family’s mental anguish caused by the case. Unemployed and staying at his parents’ home in Peddapalli district, Telangana, he nursed deep grudges against her.
Police investigations indicate the crime was premeditated. The man located her address via social media, moved to Hyderabad around two months ago, and lodged in a hostel. He conducted surveillance on her apartment in the preceding weeks.

On Wednesday, he arrived at her residence carrying a bag with two knives, a drilling machine, and a five-litre can of petrol. He barged in, entered the room where she was, locked the door from inside, and repeatedly stabbed her in the head, causing immediate death.
The woman’s mother-in-law was on the balcony during the incident. Family members alerted police, who arrived to discover the suspect had doused the room in petrol and barricaded himself in the toilet, threatening self-immolation. After negotiations, he surrendered and was arrested.
Local television channels broadcast CCTV footage showing the accused walking through the apartment corridor with the bag shortly before the crime.
Authorities continue probing the incident, which highlights persistent issues of domestic violence and escalating conflicts after separation in urban India.
