Don’t You Have Any Shame, Terrorist : PES Bengaluru Professor Suspended After Abusing Muslim Student

Bengaluru : A professor at a private university in Bengaluru has come under fire after allegedly calling a Muslim student a “terrorist” and using abusive language during a classroom interaction. As it triggered a row, members of the Congress student wing subsequently met the university management, demanding action over the incident.

Confirming the action, PES University Chancellor Jawahar Doreswamy said the institution has initiated a probe to verify the authenticity of the video and examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. We have CCTV in every classroom and we have told our technical team to look at this and authenticate the video. We have immediately placed the faculty member under suspension and the disciplinary committee of the management will look through the evidence, Doreswamy said.

Some students alleged that a few individuals who supported the affected student were also suspended for unrelated reasons. The Vice-Chancellor stated that faculty members are trained to handle classroom situations but acknowledged that there can be instances of overreaction. He noted that the professor was serving as an adjunct faculty member and expressed surprise over the reported behaviour.

He acknowledged the circulating video but mentioned there was “some background talk” with the student, adding that a full context was still being assessed. Disciplinary action would follow the inquiry, he assured. Reports also claim that three students who supported Affan were suspended for other stated reasons, such as talking in class, and that CCTV footage potentially relevant to the case was allegedly deleted—though the university has not confirmed these details.
