Delhi HC Rejects PIL Petition For The Forthcoming CJP Protest

Delhi: Expecting a huge turnout in the anticipated June 6 protest by the members of the Cockroach Janta Party, an NGO is concerned about the discipline of the youthful gathering. The Save India Foundation PIL (Public Interest Litigation) plea, was rejected by the Delhi High Court, it mentioned seeking preventive measures to ensure the protest does not disturb the capital’s routine.

The protest relates to the removal of the current Education Minister of India, Dharmendra Pradhan, amidst the systemic failures and paper leak crisis of influential institutional bodies prompting this rage. It is scheduled to happen at Jantar Mantar. A bench comprising Justice Saurabh Banerjee and Justice Amit Sharma, did not agree to proceed with an urgent provision. The plea states that the CJP is encouraging large gatherings at Jantar Mantar as well as in other parts of the capital on June 6 through its strong online presence. The Cockroach Janta Party is an online satirical page which was formed as a reaction to the remarks of the Chief Justice of India, who compared some online activists to “cockroaches” of the nation. Large support has been seen promoting this campaign, with celebrities and influencers expressing their liking to the movement.

The petition filed reportedly alleged that the online content spread with the intention of inviting people to the protest contains violent signs related to non-cooperation with law enforcement, infrastructural disruptions, etc. It also points out that the online support will lead to an actual physical gathering on a huge scale, calling for the need for proper disciplinary action to control the crowd. The plea was communicated on June 4 too, but no response was received by the petitioners. The plea requests the Delhi Police and authorities to relocate the mentioned place of gathering, maintain crowd-control measures, and secure vulnerable locations like the airport and other transport points.

The plea fears the stoppage of emergency and public services and seeks to ensure their smoothness on the proposed day of protest.

Tomorrow is the day the protest is announced to happen at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, and other areas, and it is predicted to be conducted in large numbers observing the online backing.
