Delhi Dermatologist Arrested in Brutal Killing of Long-Time Domestic Help

Delhi : In a shocking incident that has left residents of an upscale South Delhi neighbourhood stunned, a dermatologist has been arrested for the alleged murder of his domestic helper of nearly 15 years. The attack occurred on Thursday morning at the doctor’s residence in the Mount Kailash area.

According to police, the accused, identified as Manish Gupta, first assaulted 45-year-old Meena with a cricket bat and then stabbed her with a knife. Officers found him near the victim’s body on a terrace shortly after the incident. Gupta reportedly told arriving officers that he was surrendering. A blood-stained knife and the cricket bat were recovered from the scene.

Investigators have linked the killing to a recent disagreement within the household. Gupta had clashed with his wife, an Ayurvedic practitioner, over his desire to dismiss Meena from their employment. His wife had strongly opposed the move, highlighting Meena’s long service and the dedicated care she had provided to Gupta’s mother during her illness with cancer. Police believe this family tension contributed to Gupta feeling undervalued in his own home, potentially escalating the situation.

Authorities also suspect a direct confrontation may have taken place between Gupta and Meena immediately before the attack. Initial reports suggested possible suspicions of black magic or negative influences, but police have stated there is no evidence supporting those claims.

Gupta, who is in his 50s, has reportedly been receiving treatment for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder for about a decade and was on medication for the conditions. His professional background includes an MBBS degree from Sawai Man Singh Medical College in Jaipur in 1999, followed by residencies at prominent Delhi hospitals and a specialization in dermatology completed in 2005. He established his private practice in the Mount Kailash area the following year.

Neighbours described screams coming from the terrace around the time of the incident. Gupta’s wife was not at home, as she was attending to her clinic. Local residents who knew the family expressed surprise, with one neighbour portraying Gupta as a polite and unproblematic individual.

Meena’s family members were left in disbelief. Her son recounted that she had left for work as usual that morning, only for him to receive the devastating news later. Relatives described her as a quiet and dedicated woman who had been a familiar face in the community for many years.

Police are continuing their investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding buildings and gathering statements from neighbours, family members, and other witnesses. The case has drawn significant attention in the capital due to the apparent domestic nature of the crime and the victim’s long-standing role in the household.
