Dharamshala: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was formally presented with his Grammy Award in Dharamshala after winning global recognition for his spoken-word album Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The honour marked a significant milestone in the spiritual leader’s long public journey of spreading messages centred on peace, compassion and mindfulness.
Album Created With Amjad Ali Khan and Sons
The award-winning project was developed in collaboration with renowned sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash. The album combines the Dalai Lama’s reflections on compassion, humanity and meditation with Indian classical music compositions.
According to Hindustan Times, the album received the Grammy Award in the category of Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording during the 68th Grammy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles.
Ceremony Held at Dalai Lama’s Office
Reports stated that the Grammy trophy was formally handed over to the Dalai Lama at his office in Dharamshala. Amjad Ali Khan, along with Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, attended the ceremony to present the award personally.

The project has been described as a blend of spoken wisdom and music that highlights universal themes including kindness, mindfulness, hope and peace. Hindustan Times reported that the collaboration brought together artists and musicians from different traditions to create the album.
Global Recognition for Spiritual Teachings
The Grammy victory drew attention from across the world and was widely celebrated in Dharamshala, home to the Tibetan government-in-exile. Members of the Tibetan exile community viewed the recognition as an important moment for spreading the Dalai Lama’s teachings to a wider international audience.
The album also featured contributions from international artists, while Canadian singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright accepted the award on the Dalai Lama’s behalf during the Grammy ceremony in Los Angeles, according to media reports.
