New York : India’s love for AI powerded creativity is showing no signs of slowing down. Open AI CEO Sam Altman recently revealed that users in India have created more than one billion images using ChatGPT images 2.0, making the country one of the platforms biggest and most active audiences.
Calling India’s response “incredible”, Altman said the new image generation feature has seen massive engagement from Indian users in just a short span of time. From anime style potraits and cinematic posters to social media edits and digital artwork, people accross the country are using AI tools in ways that go far beyond simple experimentation.
ChatGPT Images 2.0, launched earlier this year by Open AI, introduced major upgrades in image quality, realism, prompt understanding, and editing capabilities. The tool can generate detailed visuals from simple text instruction and is also better at handling text inside images, something older AI generators often struggled with.
In India, the trend has exploded among students, content creators, designers, startup founders, and even small businesses looking for quick and affordable visual content. AI generated Ghibli inspired art, hyper realistic potraits, comic book edits, wedding concepts, festival posters, and movie style thumbnails are among the biggest trends currently dominating social media.
The rapid growth also reflects India’s rising influence in the global AI space. Earlier this year, Altman mentioned that India had become one of ChatGPT’s fastest growing markets, with millions of users actively using the platform every week. Affordable internet access , a young digital population, and increasing curiosity around AI tools have all contributed to this surge.
At the same time, the rise of AI generated visuals has also sparked discussions around copyright issues, deepfakes, and responsible AI usage. Experts believe the technology will continue to evolve rapidly, making digital literacy and ethical use more important than ever. Still, one thing is clear India is not just consuming AI anymore, it is actively shaping how these tools are being used at scale.
