Budaun: A four-year-old girl went missing in the Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday night under troubling circumstances. Her grandfather filed a police complaint after the family failed to locate her on their own. Responding to the report, police launched a late-night search, and after an intense seven-hour operation, the girl was found with visible injury marks.
Recognizing the gravity of the matter, Alapur police deployed special forces to lead the search under the supervision of the inspector-in-charge. At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Friday, the girl was discovered in critical condition and was rushed to the Women’s District Hospital in Budaun. Following an initial medical examination performed in the presence of her family, Budaun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ankita Sharma confirmed that the child had been subjected to a horrific rape. Consequently, charges related to the assault of a minor and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were added to the First Information Report (FIR), which had initially been registered only for kidnapping.

The girl is currently undergoing medical treatment, and her family is by her side. Specialists are providing psychological counseling to address her emotional and physical state. While the hospital and her family monitor her progress, she remains in a precarious condition. Authorities have launched an extensive manhunt and deployed multiple teams to track the perpetrator, utilizing the medical report and other crucial evidence.
About a few months ago, a similar case of sexual assault on a 4-year-old girl resulted in the child’s death. The girl was rescued in the critical condition and could have been saved, but hospitals in Ghaziabad dismissed the child and refused to provide treatment until a formal order was issued, as the case involved a crime. The victim’s father broke down and pleaded immensely with the staff to admit his daughter, but the child was already taking her final breaths and eventually passed away due to the collective failure of the system and society.
