Bride Shot by Alleged Jilted Lover During Wedding Jaimala In Bihar
In a horrifying turn of events at a wedding in Bihar’s Buxar district, an 18-year-old bride named Aarti Kumari was allegedly shot in the abdomen at point-blank range by a man believed to be her former admirer during the traditional jaimala (varmala) ceremony.
The incident unfolded around 11 pm on Tuesday at a venue in Chausa under the Mufassil police station limits. As the bride, attired in customary red wedding wear, stood alongside her groom on a festively decorated stage—amid relatives performing rituals including the application of vermillion—a young man reportedly stepped forward from the assembled guests and fired a single shot. The bullet struck Aarti near her navel, causing her to collapse instantly while bleeding heavily.
The venue descended into pandemonium: screams filled the air, guests scattered in terror, and the sacred rituals were abruptly abandoned. Distraught family members were left weeping as the celebration transformed into a nightmare.
Aarti received urgent medical care at a local private hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was placed on a ventilator and transferred to a higher-level facility, where she remains in critical condition.
Police swiftly registered a First Information Report (FIR) and identified the suspect as Deenbandhu (also referred to as Dinbandhu or Deenbandhu Choudhary), a local resident and neighbour described by sources as having harboured a one-sided obsession with the victim for nearly two years. He allegedly threatened her family prior to the marriage and fled the scene immediately after the attack. Authorities have detained his parents for interrogation and are conducting extensive raids across the area to apprehend him. Additional Station House Officer Chandan Kumar noted that the accused has a prior criminal history, including imprisonment in a liquor-related matter.
