The Cauvery Water Management Authority supported the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee’s proposal to give 3,500 cusecs of water per day to Tamil Nadu for 15 days, which is a significant blow for Karnataka.
The directive will take effect retroactively on July 29.
The Cauvery Water Management Authority rejected Tamil Nadu’s request to release 7,000 cusecs of water per day for a period of 15 days and approved the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee’s (CWRC) recommendation of 3,500 cusecs per day.
Additionally, the authority dismissed Karnataka’s argument that its own needs prevented it from releasing water.
Additionally, during the 15-day timeframe, Tamil Nadu had demanded that Karnataka deliver nine TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water.
Karnataka’s only remaining legal alternative, according to experts, is to go to the Supreme Court. “I have called an all-party meeting on Sunday on the Cauvery issue, and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is coming,” they said. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated, “We sincerely want to talk about working out in the best interest of both states.”
Kannada activists escalated their demonstration against the CWRC’s order earlier on Thursday in Mandya, Karnataka. They tore posters of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan during the demonstration and called for the film’s playing at the city’s Gurushri Cinema be halted.
The theater’s management decided to postpone the screening.
Additionally, the activists sent a message to the state government via the district collector, expressing sympathy for the Mandya farmers’ protest and pleading with it not to give Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
“Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, please tell them that we don’t even have drinking water, nor do we have water for our livestock,” a demonstrator stated. People’s circumstances are dire. Ask them to extend our time.
He claimed that the Mandya district’s residents had consistently taken the lead in promoting Karnataka’s interests.
“On our part, please persuade them. We are putting our faith in you. The protestor said, “We ask that you personally step in and make sure that this is rectified.
