BJP MLA’s Daughter’s Marriage Turns Into Fraud Case

Sitapur: A marriage arranged with what the family believed were proper checks has now landed two men in police custody, after BJP MLA Gyan Tiwari alleged that his daughter was deceived into marrying a man whose family had allegedly concealed a troubling past.

Police have arrested Anuj Trivedi and his son Prakhar Trivedi after the MLA lodged a complaint at Reusa police station in Sitapur. Tiwari alleged that his daughter, Pragya, married Prakhar in 2024, and that the family was misled about his background.

According to the complaint, Anuj had introduced himself as a well established Mumbai based real estate businessman. Tiwari said his family made inquiries before the marriage and received assurances about the family. It was only later, he alleged, that they came across information raising questions about Prakhar and his family.

The most serious allegation is that Prakhar had allegedly been involved in multiple marriages and had used different identities to target women in different parts of the country. The complaint puts the number of such marriages at around 25. That claim, however, remains part of the allegations being investigated and has not been established by a court.

The case has drawn further attention because Anuj Trivedi was already facing allegations in a separate matrimonial fraud investigation in Maharashtra. Police there reportedly accused him of approaching women through matrimonial advertisements, using different identities and allegedly cheating them of money and valuables.

In one Maharashtra case, a family alleged that Anuj took about rs 82 lakh after promising to help arrange another property. He was also accused of taking gold jewellery. The total alleged loss in that case was reported to be around rs 97 lakh. Investigators have reportedly been looking into claims that he may have targeted more than 25 women.

Earlier reports also said police were examining whether Prakhar, who has reportedly also been known by another name, had helped his father in the alleged fraud. For Tiwari, the issue is now personal. He has said he brought his daughter back home after learning about the allegations and publicly demanded strict action against those responsible.

The arrests are the latest development, but the investigation is far from over. Police will now have to verify the alleged identities, marriages, financial transactions and the individual role of each accused. For now, the reported figure of 25 marriages remains an allegation, and the accused will have the opportunity to contest the charges in court.
