PM Narendra Modi Voices Concern Over Asha Bhosle’s Hospitalization

Mumbai: Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle, one of Indian cinema’s most revered voices, has been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai following severe exhaustion and a chest infection.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi promptly responded to the news, expressing his deep concern on social media platform X. In his post, the Prime Minister stated, “Deeply concerned to hear that Asha Bhosle Ji has been admitted to the hospital. Praying for her good health and a speedy recovery.”

The hospitalization occurred on Sunday, with the 92-year-old icon receiving treatment under the supervision of Dr. Pratit Samdani. Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, confirmed the development via a post on X, explaining that the admission stemmed from extreme exhaustion combined with a chest infection. Zanai appealed for privacy during this period, noting that treatment is ongoing and expressing hope for positive updates soon.

Asha Bhosle, who is set to turn 93 on September 8 this year, enjoys an extraordinary legacy spanning over eight decades. She began her career in 1943 with the Marathi film song ‘Chala Chala Nav Bal’ from the movie ‘Majha Bal’. Over the years, she has delivered timeless hits including ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’, ‘Jaiye Aap Kahan Jayenge’, ‘Rangeela Re’, ‘O Haseena Zulfon Wali’, and ‘Sharara Sharara’.

The Padma Vibhushan awardee (2008) has also been honoured with two National Film Awards and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000. Even at an advanced age, she continued to captivate audiences. In 2024, at 90, she performed at Karan Aujla’s ‘Tauba Tauba’ concert in Dubai, impressively replicating the viral dance step from Vicky Kaushal’s film ‘Bad Newz’. On her 90th birthday in 2023, she opted to perform at a Dubai concert rather than attend a family gathering. Speaking to PTI at the time, she remarked, “At 90, standing on stage for three hours belting out songs. I’m thrilled I can still do it.”

The news has drawn attention across the entertainment industry, with many recalling her unparalleled contributions to Hindi and Indian film music. As updates on her condition continue to be awaited, the family has urged respect for their need for privacy while medical care proceeds at the Mumbai facility.
