NSA Ajit Doval Meets Chinese FM Wang Yi In New Delhi

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval discussed important facets of bilateral interaction, such as the advancement of the normalization of relations between the two nations. The discussions took place yesterday in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS National Security Adviser’s Meeting.

Ajit Doval emphasized at the meeting that stable, predictable, and positive bilateral relations will help to increase mutual understanding and trust. According to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, the two sides examined recent changes in bilateral relations and acknowledged advancements in the direction of progressive normalization.

Following the heated Galwan Valley skirmishes in 2020 and the ensuing military confrontation that lasted for more than four years, India and China’s relationship saw a significant decline. In the last more than a year, both countries have taken a number of steps to restore their relationship.

Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang met in New Delhi in August of last year for a Special Representatives meeting that resulted in several agreements to keep the border peaceful. The two sides withdrew their forces from several locations of contention along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh after a series of military and diplomatic discussions.

With the current geopolitical situation in turmoil, and USA’s increasing proximity to Pakistan, it is important that India balances it’s relationship with it’s friends and adversaries.
