Widespread Rain Predicted In Gujarat Till June 1, Heavy showers And Strong Winds Expected On May 28 And 29

Ahmedabad: Rain continues to lash parts of Gujarat as the Indian Meteorological Department predicts unseasonal showers across the state until June 1. Since the early hours of May 27, several districts have been hit by scattered rainfall accompanied by thunder and strong winds, with gusts reaching speeds of up to 50 km/h. Heavier downpours are expected on May 28 and 29, raising concerns among residents and farmers alike.
The forecast for today includes moderate rain with lightning and gusty winds in northern and central Gujarat, including districts like Mehsana, Patan, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, and Sabarkantha. Southern Gujarat, along with the entire Saurashtra-Kutch region, remains under a yellow alert due to the likelihood of more intense rainfall. Authorities are closely monitoring conditions in regions such as Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, and Kutch, where the impact could be more severe.
From late night, areas like Valsad, Tapi, and Chhota Udepur witnessed intense rain influenced by a mini cyclonic system. In Chhota Udepur, a fallen tree blocked the Ambala stretch of National Highway 56, causing traffic congestion for nearly a kilometer.
Meanwhile, the monsoon continues its slow march northward. After arriving in Kerala, it has now reached parts of Karnataka and Mumbai. Although Gujarat typically sees the monsoon’s official onset around June 15, the meteorological department has not yet declared an expected date this year.
