Unseasonal Rain Likely To Hit Gujarat From March 18, Ambalal Patel Warns Farmers

Weather expert Ambalal Patel has predicted unseasonal rain across Gujarat starting March 18 — and for farmers already dealing with peak summer heat, the timing couldn’t be worse.
Patel says most parts of the state could see mavthu from next week, with North, South, and Central Gujarat all in the forecast zone. Saurashtra and Kutch may also get hit.
The bigger worry isn’t just the rain. Strong winds are expected to come with it, and that combination can cause real damage to standing crops. Wheat, cumin, onion, and vegetables are most at risk. Right now happens to be one of the busiest stretches of the year for farmers harvesting is underway, and produce is moving to market. A bad spell of unseasonal rain at this point can wipe out weeks of work and push farmers into serious financial losses.
The meteorological department has separately flagged the possibility of weather changes over the coming days, echoing Patel’s forecast. Farmers have been advised to take precautions and protect their crops wherever possible. For now, farmers across the state are watching the sky and waiting.
