Panchmahal: June month has recorded heavy rains across Gujarat, bringing significant rainfall to most parts of the state. So far, the region has received nearly 11 inches of rain, roughly 31.62% of the season’s average, causing water levels to surge in major reservoirs.
One of the key water sources in Panchmahal district, the Panam Dam, has seen a dramatic increase in inflow due to intense rainfall in the upstream and catchment areas. In response, dam authorities opened two gates, releasing 9,968 cusecs of water into the Panam River to manage the rising levels.
With the dam’s water level reaching 125.05 meters, local administration has issued a high alert for 38 villages located along the riverbanks in Panchmahal and neighboring Mahisagar district. Officials have initiated precautionary measures and urged residents to stay away from the river and avoid low-lying areas.
The alert covers villages in the following talukas:
Shehera: 4 villages
Lunawada: 18 villages
Khanpur: 1 village
Santrampur: 4 villages
Authorities have emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines and are monitoring the situation closely. Emergency teams are on standby as a preventive step to ensure the safety of residents.
