Toxic Gas Leak In Surat Jewellery Unit Claims Four Lives During Tank Cleaning

Surat: Four workers lost their lives in a tragic accident at a jewellery manufacturing unit in Surat after allegedly inhaling toxic gas while cleaning an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) tank.

The incident took place during a routine cleaning operation when the workers entered the treatment tank. According to preliminary reports, poisonous fumes had accumulated inside the confined space, causing the workers to collapse. Rescue efforts were launched immediately, but all four victims could not be saved.

The accident has sent shockwaves through the local industrial community and raised fresh concerns about safety measures in hazardous work environments. Cleaning ETP tank is considered a high risk task, requiring proper protective gear, gas detection equipment and strict safety protocols before workers enter enclosed spaces.

Authorities have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of incident and whether any lapses in safety procedures contributed to the tragedy. Action may be taken if negligence is found.
