Thieves Strike Weather Department Station in Ahmedabad, Steal Equipment Worth Over ₹4 Lakh

Ahmedabad: As theft incidents continue to rise daily in the western part of Ahmedabad, thieves have now targeted the office of the Weather Department located in Naranpura. The culprits broke a window to gain entry into the Air Quality Monitoring Station (AQMS) situated at Sardar Patel Stadium. The thieves escaped after stealing valuable equipment worth a total of ₹4.65 lakh from the office, including nitrogen cylinders, batteries, MGC machines, pumps, and UPS chargers.

Police Register Case and Launch Investigation

The theft came to light when Sudhir Vishwakarma, a resident of Khoraj village in Gandhinagar and Executive Engineer of the department, checked the server data. Initially, he assumed there was a power cut as the data was offline, but grew suspicious when the system did not restart for an extended period. When he arrived at the location to investigate, he found the station’s window broken and all the equipment inside scattered in disarray.
