Somnath Temple Trust Changes Its Logo After 77 Years, Trident to Replace Shikhara From April 1

The Somnath Mahadev Temple Trust has replaced its logo for the first time since 1949. Out goes the shikhara the temple’s spire and in comes a trident. The change takes effect April 1.

The new logo is already live on the trust’s social media accounts and has shown up on Ram Navami event boards at the Nutan Ram Mandir. Full adoption across all communications kicks in from April 1.

The shikhara design dated back to the trust’s founding. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, then Deputy Prime Minister, appointed the first trustees on October 18, 1949, after the temple was rebuilt. That logo used on every letterhead, signboard, and official document went unchanged for 77 years.

The temple itself rises 155 feet from ground to spire. The flagpole above the damru is 31 feet tall with a one-foot circumference; the flag measures 104 feet. The trident replacing the spire is Lord Shiva’s weapon, a symbol with deep significance in Hindu worship.
