Rain Turns Deadly In Gujarat: Electrocution Tragedies Kill Five, Including A Family Of Three

Ahmedabad: As monsoon rains sweep through Gujarat, the season’s beauty has taken a grim turn with two separate electrocution incidents claiming five lives, highlighting the deadly risks of electrical exposure during wet weather. In a devastating incident from Dharadhara village in Vav taluka, three members of the same family were killed by electric shock early Saturday morning. The victims, Jetha Makwana, his wife Rakhuben, and their son Pathu, had gone to their farm to start a borewell pump when they were fatally electrocuted.

According to locals, the tragedy unfolded in seconds. Neighbors and family rushed to the field upon hearing the news, but it was too late. The bodies have been sent to the government hospital in Vav for post-mortem examination. The incident has plunged the village into mourning, with residents stunned by the sudden loss.

In a separate case in Bechari village near Umreth (Anand district), two young men died after receiving a powerful electric shock during a Muharram procession. The victims, Mohsinkhan and Hussenkhan, were carrying a Taziya when it reportedly came into contact with a live overhead wire. The joyous gathering turned into chaos and grief within moments. Witnesses said the young men collapsed instantly. Both were declared dead on the scene, and the incident cast a pall over the Muharram commemorations in the village.

Authorities have reiterated the need for extreme caution around electrical infrastructure during the rainy season. Experts urge farmers and event organizers to ensure electrical safety measures are in place, particularly when working with water pumps or organizing outdoor festivities. These back-to-back tragedies have raised urgent questions about public awareness, infrastructure safety, and the enforcement of electrical safety protocols in rural and semi-urban areas.
