Somanth: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the Vishesh Maha Puja organised during the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav celebrations at the revered Somnath Temple in Gujarat on Monday. According to ANI and various media reports, the event commemorated 75 years since the reconstruction and inauguration of the historic temple after Independence.

The Vishesh Maha Puja was followed by sacred Kumbhabhishek and Dhvajarohan rituals, which included ceremonial consecration procedures and the hoisting of the temple flag. The Somnath Temple, regarded as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in Hindu tradition, witnessed large-scale celebrations attended by devotees and dignitaries.

As part of the celebrations, Prime Minister Modi also watched a special aerial display by the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team. Reports stated that the aerobatic performance became one of the key highlights of the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister offered prayers at the temple and paid tribute to the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during a roadshow in Gir Somnath. Thousands of supporters reportedly gathered along the route to welcome him as security arrangements remained tight across the city.

Ahead of his visit, Modi shared an op-ed discussing the historical and civilisational importance of Somnath Temple and honoured those who contributed to its restoration over centuries. ANI reported that the Prime Minister described Somnath’s journey as a story of “renewal” and resilience.
