Monsoon To Arrive On Time In Gujarat: Check Out Weather Forecast For June Month

Ahmedabad: After days of unseasonal showers in parts of Gujarat, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that the Southwest monsoon will arrive on schedule this year. While the first half of June is expected to bring light rainfall, heavier showers are forecast to begin around June 22. The month will likely end with intense rain and thunderstorms between June 27 and June 30.

Although a rain-bearing weather system had rapidly developed from South Gujarat to Maharashtra, it lost momentum and failed to reach Gujarat earlier than expected. As a result, the state has had to wait longer for substantial rainfall. Weather experts now agree that the southwest monsoon will reach Gujarat as per the usual timeline, not ahead of schedule.

Earlier predictions had suggested that the monsoon might arrive early due to strong systems forming in southern India. However, these systems have recently weakened, slowing down the progress of rainfall northward. IMD Director A.K. Das explained that while conditions initially pointed to an early monsoon arrival around mid-June, the declining pace of cyclonic activity near Maharashtra has delayed its advancement.

On a positive note, there is no heatwave expected in Gujarat this June. The state can anticipate widespread rainfall, with several regions likely to receive above-average precipitation.

According to IMD’s seasonal projections for June, 2025: South Gujarat districts like Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are expected to witness heavy rainfall. Saurashtra coastal areas such as Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Junagadh are also likely to receive more rain than usual.

Central Gujarat districts including Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar are forecast to get above-normal rainfall. In North Gujarat, regions such as Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad may experience average to slightly below-average rainfall in some areas.Kutch is expected to see mixed conditions, with some areas receiving more rain than usual while others might get less.

Overall, June 2025 is shaping up to be a much-needed relief for Gujarat, bringing a timely monsoon and widespread rainfall without the added stress of extreme heat.
