Maharashtra Arranges Temporary Shelter for Gujarat Fishermen Stranded at Sea; Authorities Issue Immediate Recall Advisory

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state, warning that sea conditions will remain unfavorable for fishing operations until August 23. Strong winds are expected, and fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea. Authorities have further directed all fishing boats already at sea to return immediately for safety.
In light of the deteriorating weather and strong winds over the Arabian Sea, special measures have been coordinated to safeguard Gujarati fishermen who may be mid-sea or operating within Maharashtra’s maritime boundary. The Gujarat Fisheries Department formally alerted its Maharashtra counterpart, requesting assistance.
Responding to the situation, the Maharashtra Fisheries Department has ensured that Gujarati fishing boats, vessels, and crew members will be provided temporary shelter at various ports across the state. Arrangements have been made to extend emergency facilities and essential support for their safety. Shelter locations include coastal districts such as Palghar, Thane, Mumbai Suburban, Mumbai City, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, where proper berthing and primary assistance will be offered.
According to official weather updates, the Arabian Sea is currently experiencing adverse conditions. Fishing vessels from ports such as Jafrabad, Shiyalbet, Chanch Bandar, Nava Bandar, Rajpara, Simar-Khadabandar in Amreli district, along with others across Gujarat’s coastline, have been specifically instructed to suspend operations and avoid venturing into the waters until the situation normalizes.
