Gujarati US Politician Anand Shah Arrested In Gambling Racket Involving Italian Mafia

New York: An Indian-origin politician and high-ranking members of the notorious Italian-American mafia, the Lucchese crime family, were among 39 people arrested for allegedly running a USD 3 million illegal gambling ring out of several restaurants in New York. Gujarati business owner and New Jersey Council member Anand Shah Arrested in Gambling racket involving Italian Mafia.

Anand Shah, 42 was allegedly responsible for overseeing illegal gambling dens in New York alongside the notorious Lucchese crime family, according to a statement released by New Jersey Attorney General Matthew on Friday. The arrests came following a two-year probe into the illegal gambling operations run by the Lucchese family and a string of raids across poker clubs and several locations in North Jersey.

The raids revealed that several poker games were being run surreptitiously, with restaurants serving as fronts. According to the probe, the daily operations of the poker clubs were overseen by managers, who, in turn, reported to high-level supervisors – each pocketing a small share of the criminal proceeds.
