Gujarat Reshuffles Panchayat Department: 23 Officers Promoted to Class-1 Ahead of Local Body Elections

Gandhinagar: With local body elections on the horizon, the Gujarat government has initiated a significant administrative overhaul in the Panchayat, Rural Housing, and Rural Development Department, promoting 23 Class-2 officers to Class-1 positions and assigning them to new postings.
According to the official order, the officers previously serving under Gujarat Development Service (GVS) Class-2 have been elevated to Gujarat Administrative Service (GAS) Junior Scale Class-1. Their fresh postings have been issued alongside the promotion orders.
The promoted officers have been placed in Pay Matrix Level-10, drawing a salary range of ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500. The promotions have been granted on a purely temporary, in-situ basis, citing administrative necessity.
The timing of the reshuffle is being seen as significant. With elections to local self-government bodies approaching, strengthening the administrative backbone of key rural-facing departments like Panchayat and Rural Development is expected to improve on-ground implementation of government schemes and sharpen administrative efficiency at the grassroots level.
