Gujarat Postpones Cooperative Society Elections for 6 Months Following SIR Initiative

Ahmedabad: In view of the crucial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) operations currently underway across the state, the Gujarat government has announced a significant decision regarding the cooperative sector. Elections for the managing committees of all designated cooperative societies in the state have been exempted from being conducted for the next six months.

Reasons Behind This Decision

Government spokesperson and minister Jitubhai Vaghani provided information on this matter, stating that the highly important SIR work is presently ongoing throughout the state. Since the revenue administration is occupied with this work, organizing elections for cooperative societies is difficult at this stage. Therefore, this decision has been taken for administrative convenience.

Key Details of the Notification

Duration of Exemption: Six months from the date of publication of the notification.

Legal Provision: Using the authority granted under Section 161 of the Gujarat Cooperative Societies Act, 1961, exemption has been provided from the provisions of Section 74(c) and Sections 145(a) to (e).

Applicability: All designated cooperative societies whose election process is currently ongoing or was scheduled to be held in the near future.

Who Will This Exemption Not Apply To?

Cooperative societies whose election process is being conducted under any judicial order or court verdict will not receive this exemption. This means elections under judicial orders will continue as scheduled.
