Gujarat Launches Health Insurance Scheme For Government Workers And Pensioners: Cashless Treatment Up To ₹10 Lakh Per Family

Ahmedabad: To enhance healthcare access for public servants, the Gujarat government has unveiled the Gujarat Karmayogi Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, a state-funded health insurance scheme that promises cashless treatment benefits of up to ₹10 lakh per family.
The initiative, introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, is set to benefit more than 6.4 lakh individuals, including serving state employees, All India Services (AIS) officers, and government pensioners.
The scheme operates through the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) framework and is tailored for those enrolled under the ‘G’ category. Eligible beneficiaries will receive comprehensive medical coverage without any out-of-pocket expenses at empanelled hospitals across the country.
To access these benefits, employees and pensioners are required to obtain a PMJAY health card, the issuance of which has been entrusted to the State Health Agency (SHA). An estimated 4.2 lakh serving employees and officers, along with around 2.2 lakh pensioners, are expected to benefit from the scheme. However, individuals above the age of 70 who are already covered under the recently launched Vay Vandana Yojana will not be included under this program.
The financial commitment from the Gujarat government is substantial, with an annual premium burden of ₹303.3 crore. Each family enrolled under the scheme will have their ₹3,708 premium fully covered by the state, making it one of the most expansive and inclusive healthcare initiatives for public servants in the country.
With this move, Gujarat not only strengthens the health security of its workforce but also sets a strong precedent for other states seeking to extend meaningful health protections to their employees and retirees.
