Gujarat Govt Announces ₹947 Crore Relief Package for Farmers Hit by Heavy Rains in August-September

The Gujarat government has announced a relief package worth ₹947 crore to support farmers whose crops were damaged due to heavy rainfall during August and September 2025. The assistance will be provided jointly under the SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) and the state government’s share.
According to officials, widespread crop losses have been reported in Junagadh, Panchmahal, Kutch, Patan, and Vav-Tharad regions. Heavy downpours affected major crops such as paddy, fodder, bajra, cotton, groundnut, and vegetables. A total of around 800 villages across 18 talukas have been identified for compensation after damage assessments were completed.
Compensation Details For failed kharif crops:
Farmers who suffered more than 33% crop damage during the 2025-26 kharif season will receive compensation as per SDRF norms. The maximum assistance is ₹3,400 per hectare under SDRF, with an equal amount of ₹3,400 from the state government totaling ₹6,800 per hectare, for up to 2 hectares of land.
For rainfed/irrigated crops:
Farmers with 33% or higher loss to rainfed or irrigated crops will get ₹3,710 per hectare under SDRF norms, plus ₹3,500 from the state share totaling ₹7,210 per hectare, up to a limit of 2 hectares.
For horticulture crops:
In cases where horticultural farms suffered losses exceeding 33%, farmers will get ₹3,720 per hectare under SDRF norms and ₹3,500 from the state government totaling ₹7,220 per hectare, with a cap of 2 hectares.
Additional Support for Severely Hit Areas
Special additional assistance will be granted to farmers in Vav-Tharad and Patan districts, where heavy rains have left farmland waterlogged. The state has set aside special disaster relief funds from the budget to provide ₹20,000 per hectare (up to 2 hectares) for land restoration and soil improvement activities in these affected zones.

The government stated that these measures aim to help farmers recover from crop losses and support agricultural stability across the state after the recent spell of excessive rainfall.
