
Ahmedabad: A severe cold wave has gripped the entire state of Gujarat at present. Over the past 24 hours, there has been a significant drop in minimum temperatures across the state, with Naliya in Kutch emerging as the coldest location at 4.8 degrees Celsius. This marks the season’s lowest temperature recorded so far. Cold winds have disrupted daily life, leaving residents shivering during early morning and late evening hours. Saurashtra region has also witnessed intensifying cold conditions, with Amreli recording 8.6 degrees and Rajkot registering 9.4 degrees, causing citizens to tremble in the biting chill.
Temperature Readings Across Cities
Looking at other major urban centers in the state, Ahmedabad’s minimum temperature stood at 11.7 degrees, while Gandhinagar recorded 10.8 degrees and Vadodara registered 14 degrees Celsius. In South Gujarat, Surat remained relatively warmer at 15 degrees, whereas Dang reported 12.8 degrees. The border town of Bhuj saw temperatures at 11.2 degrees, with Kandla recording 11.9 degrees. According to the Meteorological Department, this cold spell is likely to persist in the coming days.
North India Battles Harsh Cold and Dense Fog
Meanwhile, northern India continues to reel under bone-chilling cold and thick fog conditions. The situation has turned critical in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, where visibility has dropped near zero, severely affecting vehicular movement. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of severe cold and fog for Saturday, January 10 as well. Additionally, anticipated rainfall in the near future could compound people’s difficulties, with no signs of relief visible at present.
Rainfall Forecast for Tamil Nadu Coast
Examining southern India’s weather patterns, a ‘Deep Depression’ formed in the Bay of Bengal is advancing towards Sri Lanka. At midnight on January 9, this system was centered approximately 100 kilometers from Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. As per the Meteorological Department’s forecast, this system is expected to weaken into a depression by afternoon on January 10 and cross the northern Sri Lankan coast. This weather system is likely to create rainy conditions along Tamil Nadu’s coastal areas.
