Gujarat Budget 2026-27: Finance Minister Kanu Desai Will Present Budget 5th Consecutive Time

Gandhunagar : The budget for the year 2026-2027 will be presented by Finance Minister Kanu Desai on February 18, the third day of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly session in Gandhinagar. The total size of the budget this year is likely to be Rs 4 lakh crore, due to which additional provisions are expected for various development works. The session proceedings will begin around 12 noon. After that, the budget is likely to be presented at around 1 pm. The assembly proceedings will begin with the Question Hour.

Questions from various departments including the Home Department, Sports Department, MSME will be raised by the MLAs. There is a possibility that the members will try to surround the government on issues related to the people. It is worth noting that Congress has expressed its opposition before the budget was presented. Additional expenditure and supplementary expenditure sheets will also be presented in the House during the session. Detailed information will be given by the government on revenue and expenditure estimates, new schemes, development projects and welfare measures.

To accelerate the development of the state, important announcements are likely to be made in the budget regarding additional allocations in infrastructure, industry, agriculture and social sectors. Now all eyes are on this budget to see how much priority the government gives to which sector. It is noteworthy that the budget in 2015-16 was Rs 1,37,667 crore, which increased by 166% to Rs 3.70 lakh crore by 2025-26. Thus, the budget has increased approximately three times in 10 years.

The state government is likely to present a new path of development in the upcoming 2026-27 budget, keeping the GYAN (Garib, Yuva, Annadata and Nari Shakti) model at the center. The total size of the budget may be between Rs. 4.10 lakh crore and Rs. 4.22 lakh crore. It is being expressed that in this budget, along with social security, industrial and technological development will also be given equal priority.

New assistance schemes for poor welfare and women empowerment, housing and self-employment programmes may get more allocation. Separate packages are likely to be announced to promote self-help groups and support women entrepreneurs. The education department may get Rs. 60,000 to 62,000 crore. Projects like smart classrooms, new universities and ‘Mission School of Excellence’ will get a boost.
