Narmada: A major political controversy erupted in Narmada district’s Dediyapada town following a violent altercation during an official ATVT (Aapno Taluko Vibrant Taluko), a local-level coordination committee meeting. The incident allegedly involved AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava and Taluka Panchayat President Sanjay Vasava.
According to reports, tensions flared during the government meeting held at the Dediyapada Sub-Divisional Office, meant to discuss developmental plans for Dediyapada and Sagbara talukas. MLA Chaitar Vasava allegedly misbehaved with a female panchayat head after Vasava got agitated after raising objection over his nominee not being considered for appointment as a member of the ATVT, prompting Sanjay Vasava to intervene. What followed was a verbal and physical altercation that stunned officials present, including TDOs, revenue officers, and committee members.
Sanjay Vasava accused the MLA of throwing a mobile phone and a glass, slapping him, and even threatening to shoot him. A formal police complaint was filed, leading to the detention of Chaitar Vasava. The police moved him to Rajpipla, during which clashes broke out between police and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters who attempted to block the vehicle.
With accusations flying from both sides, the true cause behind the altercation remains under investigation. Officials who witnessed the event are expected to play a crucial role in determining accountability. The political fallout appears far from over, as AAP rallies support and BJP faces allegations of authoritarianism.
An FIR has been registered at Dediapada police station under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman through words, gestures), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult) and 324 (3) (damage to property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case is currently under police scrutiny, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
