Devayat Khavad Held in Dhruvrajsinh Assault: Six Arrested, Scorpio Seized in Gir Somnath Case
Police also probing who sheltered Devayat Khavad in Talala

Surendranagar: In the case of a murderous assault on Ahmedabad resident Dhruvrajsinh in Gir Somnath district, well-known folk artist Devayat Khavad and six others were arrested from a farmhouse near Dudhai village in Surendranagar district. Police also seized Khavad’s Scorpio SUV.
According to available information, police apprehended the accused Devayat Khavad wanted in the attack near Bakula Dhanej-Chitrod in Talala taluka at a farmhouse near Dudhai in Muli taluka. Along with Khavad, six other accused and the Scorpio were taken into custody.
The noted folk literature artist is accused of ramming Dhruvrajsinh’s car near Chitrod in Gir Somnath, after which a group of about 12–15 men, including Khavad, allegedly vandalized the vehicle with pipes and sticks and brutally assaulted Dhruvrajsinh.
To nab Khavad and 15 others linked to the attack, police formed five teams and conducted raids at multiple locations. Investigators are also examining who sheltered Khavad within Talala over the past 48 hours.
Detailing the incident, it emerged that an earlier fracas involving Khavad occurred in Chitrod village. Police said the assailants had covered their faces during the attack, but Khavad’s mask slipped, enabling the victim to recognize him. Gir Somnath DYSP V.R. Khengar stated that Khavad and his associates conducted reconnaissance and executed a pre-planned conspiracy to carry out the assault.
Police have registered a case against Devayat Khavad and 15 others and launched a manhunt for those still absconding. Multiple teams have been constituted to make arrests, and the investigation has been handed over to the Talala Police Inspector.
