Ahmedabad: COVID-19 cases are rapidly climbing in Gujarat, with Ahmedabad city alone reporting 60 infections in a single day, bringing the total number of cases this season to 330. Currently, 241 patients are active, while 88 have recovered and been discharged.
The surge is most pronounced in Ahmedabad’s western suburbs, where over 190 cases have been reported from areas like Bopal-Ghuma, Thaltej, Gota, Chandlodia, Vastrapur, Satellite, Jodhpur, Sarkhej, Vasna, Paldi, Chandkheda, Motera, Sabarmati, Ashram Road, Ranip, Nava Vadaj, New Ranip, Jagatpur, Keshavnagar Vadaj, and Vejalpur. Health officials are particularly concerned about the growing cluster in these residential zones.
Rajkot District Police Chief Tests Positive
In a significant development, Rajkot District Superintendent of Police (SP) Himkarsinh has tested positive for COVID-19. He is currently under home isolation and has assured the public that his condition is stable.
“I had mild symptoms like cold, cough, and fever, which led me to get tested. I’m currently stable and isolating at home as a precaution, following doctors’ advice. Once I test negative, I’ll resume my official duties,” SP Himkarsinh stated.
Rajkot reported 8 new cases, 1 woman and 7 men, pushing the district’s total to 52. While 6 patients recovered today, the number of active cases stands at 40, all of whom are in home isolation. The situation is being closely watched by local health authorities. Surat recorded three fresh cases, including a woman who recently returned from Thailand. Her case has triggered contact tracing and additional testing among recent international arrivals.
State and National Snapshot
Statewide, two women have succumbed to COVID-19-related complications so far in this wave. At the national level, India is currently managing 4,026 active cases, with 39 deaths attributed to the virus in recent weeks.
Officials across Gujarat are urging the public to maintain caution, wear masks in crowded areas, and get tested at the first sign of symptoms. With senior officials like SP Himkarsinh now among the infected, the government is reinforcing safety measures within administrative departments as well.
