Bribery Bust At Sabarmati Sub-Registrar’s Office In Ahmedabad: Advocates Among Six Accused, One Still Missing

Ahmedabad: In an anti-corruption operation, Gujarat’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has exposed a bribery scheme involving multiple individuals connected to the Sabarmati sub-registrar’s office. Among those named in the case are two advocates. Five suspects have been apprehended, while one remains at large.

The case surfaced after a man trying to complete a property inheritance process approached ACB officials with a complaint. His unmarried brother had passed away, and the complainant, along with a sister, was seeking rightful succession of the property. They initially paid ₹14,850 in official legal fees to Advocate Rajabhai Prabhubhai Prajapati through Google Pay.

However, instead of moving forward with the documentation, the process stalled. When pressed for progress, the advocate informed the complainant of a supposed query in the file and demanded an additional ₹75,000 to resolve it, allegedly on behalf of the sub-registrar. Unwilling to comply with the demand, the complainant contacted the ACB, prompting officials to set up a sting operation.

Under surveillance, the bribe money was handed over to two individuals, Kush Rajubhai Mehta and Bharatiben Motibhai Parmar. According to the ACB, Parmar distributed the sum to others involved: ₹33,500 went to Dalpatsinh Gadanji Thakor, ₹40,500 to Khyatiben Dineshbhai Joshi, and ₹500 to Baldev alias Bakul Parmar, all believed to be linked to the sub-registrar’s office.

While five suspects were detained on the spot, one, Bakul Parmar, slipped away during the chaos and remains untraceable. A manhunt is underway.

Officials confirmed that charges have been formally registered against all six individuals. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of corruption within the office and identify any additional accomplices.
