Auto-Rickshaw Driver Held With 184 Grams of Ganja Hidden Under Seat; 90 Packets Seized

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Crime Branch’s Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested a 45-year-old auto-rickshaw driver with 184 grams of ganja on Monday near the Vasna APMC Metro Station. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Arif Mazhar Hussain Syed, a resident of Noornagar, behind Golden Talkies in Vatva. According to police, he was carrying the narcotic substance in his rickshaw on a public road connecting Vejalpur and Shyamal at around 5 pm on Monday.

Action taken on a tip-off

The SOG Crime Branch received specific information at around 2 pm that an auto driver was heading towards the Metro station to sell ganja illegally. Acting on the tip-off, police laid a trap and stopped the rickshaw. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a yellow bag under the driver’s seat. Inside it was a black plastic bag containing 90 small transparent packets. A preliminary test conducted by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officer confirmed that the substance was ganja.

Items worth Rs 64,700 seized

Police said the seized ganja weighs 184 grams and is valued at an estimated Rs 9,200. Two mobile phones worth Rs 5,500 and the auto-rickshaw, valued at Rs 50,000, were also seized, taking the total value of the seized items to Rs 64,700.

The name of another man, Ubed Amanullah Khan Pathan, a resident of Fatehwadi, has also surfaced in the case. He is believed to be involved in the sale of drugs. The SOG Crime Branch has registered a case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act and begun legal proceedings. Police are continuing their investigation to determine where the ganja was sourced from and who else is part of the network.
