Ahmedabad: As security forces are on high alert for the much-anticipated IPL 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, an alarming bomb threat targeting a local school added to the city’s tension on Tuesday.
The Geneva Liberal School, located along Ahmedabad’s SP Ring Road, received a threatening email around 10:58 AM, causing panic among staff and students. The subject line chillingly read: “Bomb planted in the school to provide justice for a rape victim.”
Authorities responded swiftly. Police forces, a bomb disposal squad, and fire department teams were deployed to the school immediately after the email was reported. Students were evacuated as precautionary measures were undertaken.
According to initial reports, the email was allegedly sent by an individual identifying as “Divij Prabhakara.” The message claimed that a bomb had been planted in the school to protest police inaction in a 2023 rape case in Hyderabad. The sender alleged that the crime occurred at a Lemon Tree Hotel and included contact details of the accused and his parents.
In an unsettling tone, the email stated: “The police is sleeping and they cannot do anything… Only if children die, police will become active. We are going to blast the bomb in your school to bring police attention to rape.” Further, the email accused the suspect’s family of ongoing abuse and dowry harassment, claiming the alleged rapist’s parents were tormenting their daughter-in-law for a dowry of ₹1 crore, referencing their debts on a house and car loan.The threatening message ended with a grim challenge: “Save them if you can.”
Ahmedabad City District Education Officer (DEO), Rohit Chaudhary, confirmed the incident. “After receiving the threat, the school immediately alerted the police and our department. Security personnel are currently stationed at the school, and access is being tightly controlled,” he said.
While the school was cleared and declared safe, investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the email and verify the claims made within it. Authorities have yet to determine the credibility of the threat, but security has been tightened across the city due to both the IPL final and the disturbing nature of the message.
