Ahmedabad Love Jihad Row: Hindu Groups Spark Drama At Gheekanta District Registrar Office

Ahmedabad: The District Registrar Office in Ahmedabad’s Gheekanta area was turned into a proper camp on March 3. A Muslim youth and a Hindu girl had arrived to perform a court marriage when Hindu organisations reached the spot and carried out a heavy protest demonstration. The incident created a tense atmosphere in the court premises.

The girl’s family members and the Hindu organisations alleged that the process was being conducted behind closed doors with a setting arranged. They claimed the girl had been trapped in a love net, while the Hindu organisations called the incident ‘Love Jihad’.

The girl’s attire became the most discussed aspect of the entire episode. The young woman, who had come for the marriage, arrived dressed in a lawyer’s outfit. This sight triggered strong anger among the other lawyers present. Although she is not a lawyer, her appearance in the guise of one led people connected with the legal profession to express displeasure over the violation of professional boundaries.

A senior lawyer stated regarding the matter, “Today in the court, one woman and one man who were not lawyers came in the guise of lawyers. We informed the Karanj Police Station about it. After that they came to the court and we have assured legal action against both. Our demand to the PI is that register the legal crime against both if it is happening.” The girl had come to enter into a court marriage with Salman Mansuri from Naroda.

The girl’s family and Hindu organisations have opposed this by calling it ‘Love Jihad’. As soon as information about the incident was received, a police team rushed to the spot and made efforts to settle the matter. The family has strongly opposed the marriage and alleged that the girl has been misled.
