Ahmedabad Bike Theft Gang Busted: Sola Police Crack 19 Cases, Seize 23 Two-Wheelers From Rajasthan Trio

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad’s Sola Police have dismantled a seasoned bike theft gang operating across the SG Highway corridor, arresting three men from Bansawara, Rajasthan, and recovering 23 stolen motorcycles linked to 19 criminal cases across multiple city police stations.

DCP Harshad Patel, briefing reporters on the operation, said the gang was led by prime accused Gopal, who operated alongside two associates identified as Mukesh and Bharat. The trio specifically targeted parking lots near offices and commercial zones where vehicles remained unattended for extended hours during the day.

The ‘Master Key’ Method

Gopal reportedly carried a collection of duplicate and worn-down keys that could unlock older motorcycles with loosened ignition mechanisms. Aged bikes were deliberately chosen as targets because their worn locks could be bypassed easily with these makeshift keys. After each theft, the stolen vehicles were concealed in dense shrubbery near Bhadhaj Circle to avoid detection.

How Police Cracked the Case

Persistent thefts reported near the Sola Bhagwat Bridge prompted investigators to conduct a detailed review of CCTV footage from the area, which eventually surfaced a lead pointing to Gopal. Police set up a surveillance detail near the Adani Petrol Pump on the Ring Road, where Gopal was apprehended. Subsequent interrogation revealed the names of his two associates.

Crimes Solved Across the City

Of the 23 recovered bikes, nine cases were linked to the Sola High Court police station jurisdiction alone. The remaining cases were traced back to Ramol, Krishnanagar, Odhav, Nikol, Sabarmati Riverfront, and Kathlahal police stations.

Gopal has a prior criminal record of more than 11 theft cases. Police said he was not motivated by addiction but by the pursuit of easy money without physical labor. All three accused are currently in custody, with further investigation underway.
