The Cannes Film Festival has long transcended its roots as a premier cinema event to become one of the world’s most prominent showcases for high fashion. Each year, the iconic red carpet draws international celebrities who compete in elegance and extravagance, donning creations from leading designers and rare jewels. In 2025, Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela set a new benchmark with an ensemble valued at approximately $156 million (over ₹1,300 crore), the most expensive look in the festival’s history.
Urvashi Rautela walked the red carpet multiple times during her 2025 appearance at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. For her standout debut, she selected a dazzling gown by designer Michael Cinco, complemented by a distinctive parrot-inspired clutch and elaborate jewellery. Reports from international outlets placed the total value of her attire at $155.9 million, surpassing the entire box office collection of the previous year’s top-grossing Indian film, Dhurandhar. This figure dwarfed the prior record held by Kim Kardashian’s $5 million outfit featuring Marilyn Monroe’s famous dress.
The gown’s high valuation stemmed from its intricate mosaic inspired by Mexican art, reflecting exceptional design, craftsmanship, and cultural importance, priced at $4.8 million. The accompanying parrot clutch added another $50,000 or more. However, the jewellery formed the centrepiece of the look. According to Moneycontrol, Urvashi wore several legendary diamonds, including the Moussaieff Red Diamond, Oppenheimer Blue Diamond, Dresden Green Diamond, and Tiffany Yellow Diamond. These rare pieces were collectively valued at around $151 million, elevating the overall cost significantly.

Urvashi Rautela returned to the festival in 2026 for the opening ceremony of the 79th edition on May 12. She appeared in a creation by Vietnamese label JoliPoli Couture, featuring a form-fitting sheer silhouette in delicate lavender mesh with a heavily embellished bodice of silver crystals, beads, and architectural details that produced a shimmering effect. She completed the look with a maang tika-style headpiece featuring a bird motif and tassels, along with matching oversized earrings.
This achievement by Urvashi Rautela has drawn widespread attention, distinguishing her from other prominent Indian actresses like Aishwarya Rai, Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone in discussions of Cannes red carpet opulence.
