Tanushree Dutta’s Remarks on Nana Patekar’s Death Spark Social Media Backlash

Actress Tanushree Dutta’s comments on the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar have drawn sharp criticism on social media.

The 75-year-old actor’s passing led to widespread mourning. Dutta, who was in Lucknow attending an event on the day the news broke, was asked about his death. She first thanked the organisers and the city for the welcome, stating that the day belonged to the event and its success. She added that she had no particular reaction and said, “Whatever has passed, has passed.”

Earlier, in an Instagram post, Dutta had described the timing of the news as unusual, noting that she was heading to a public event and that media interest centred mainly on her response. She also referred to the difficult years that followed her allegations against Patekar during the 2018 #MeToo movement.

Users on social media reacted strongly to the remarks. Some described the comments as insensitive, while others called her shameless and questioned her talent. A few suggested that Patekar’s family should consider legal action over the statements.

Dutta and Patekar had worked together in the 2009 film Horn OK Please. In 2018 she had levelled serious allegations against him, which he had rejected as baseless.

The exchange has fuelled online debate in the wake of the actor’s death.
