Shefali Jariwala’s Tragic End: Puja, Fasting, and an Unsupervised IV Drip

Mumbai – The sudden death of actor and model Shefali Jariwala, known for her iconic role in the 2002 music video Kaanta Laga, has left the entertainment industry and her fans in shock. The 42-year-old passed away on June 27, 2025, following a cardiac arrest, with authorities pointing to a possible link between her fasting and an unsupervised IV drip.

According to police sources, Jariwala had been observing a fast as part of a Satyanarayan Puja, a Hindu religious ritual, on the day of her death. Despite abstaining from food, she reportedly took medications, which may have contributed to her collapse. The Mumbai Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are awaiting the results of a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death, with preliminary findings suggesting a sudden drop in blood pressure.

Investigations revealed that Jariwala had been using anti-aging treatments, including a Vitamin C IV drip, without medical supervision. Her close friend, actor Pooja Ghai, confirmed to journalist Vickey Lalwani that Jariwala received the IV drip on the evening of her death. Ghai noted that such drips are common in places like Dubai and considered safe, but the lack of professional oversight in this instance has raised concerns. The police have questioned the individual who administered the drip to ascertain the nature of the medication.

On the night of her passing, Jariwala had dinner as usual and asked her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, to take their dog for a walk. Shortly after, a domestic helper alerted Tyagi that Jariwala was unwell, prompting him to rush back home. Despite still having a pulse when he found her, her eyes were closed, and she was unresponsive. Tyagi immediately took her to Cooper Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Mumbai Police, found anti-aging medications, skin glow tablets, and vitamin supplements during a search of Jariwala’s Andheri residence. Her family stated that these were not prescribed by a doctor but maintained that they had not previously affected her health. Authorities have ruled out foul play but are continuing their investigation, pending the final postmortem and viscera reports.

Jariwala’s last rites were performed at the Oshiwara Hindu Crematorium on June 28, 2025, with her husband, family, and close friends, including Hindustani Bhau, in attendance. Her home, still adorned with decorations from the puja, served as a poignant reminder of the ritual she had undertaken just hours before her untimely death.

Jariwala rose to fame with Kaanta Laga and later appeared in reality shows like Nach Baliye with Tyagi and Bigg Boss 13. Her most recent role was as Kapalika in the TV series Shaitani Rasmein. Her sudden passing has sparked discussions about the risks of unsupervised medical treatments and the pressures of maintaining a youthful appearance in the entertainment industry.
