Mentally Unstable Man Behind Salman Khan Death Threat, Say Police

Authorities have identified a 26-year-old man from a village in Gujarat’s Vadodara district as the individual who sent a death threat to Bollywood actor Salman Khan, police reported on Tuesday. The man, deemed mentally unstable, has been issued a notice by Mumbai police to appear for questioning.

The threat, received on Sunday via the Mumbai Traffic Police’s WhatsApp helpline, warned of detonating a bomb in Khan’s car and attacking the actor, who is under Y-Plus security, at his home. Mumbai’s Worli police promptly filed a case under section 351(2)(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal intimidation and increased security measures around Khan’s Bandra residence.

Following a probe, Mumbai police traced the message to a resident of Waghodia taluka in Vadodara, according to district Superintendent of Police Rohan Anand. On Monday, a Mumbai police team, assisted by local Waghodia officers, visited the suspect’s village home. There, they confirmed the man’s ongoing mental health treatment, Anand told reporters. After serving him a notice to appear, the team departed.
This incident follows heightened security concerns for Khan. Last April, two individuals on a motorbike fired four shots outside his Galaxy Apartments residence in Bandra. Khan has also faced prior threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who demanded an apology over the alleged killing of a blackbuck, prompting his Y-Plus security status. Weeks after last year’s shooting, Navi Mumbai Police reported thwarting a Bishnoi gang plot to assassinate Khan during a trip to his Panvel farmhouse.
