Actor Roopi Gill made her appearance at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival representing her upcoming Punjabi film Chardikala, choosing a traditional ensemble over the red carpet’s usual fare of international high fashion.
Gill wore an ivory Punjabi-inspired outfit designed by Pitambara, featuring zardozi embroidery, layered dupattas, and traditional jewellery rooted in Punjabi royal aesthetics. The look drew from pind culture and the region’s heritage rather than contemporary red carpet trends.
The detailing carried deliberate cultural references. One dupatta featured wheat motifs as a nod to Punjab’s agrarian identity, while the other carried patterns inspired by spirituality and legacy. The title Chardikala was embroidered directly onto the outfit in Gurmukhi script.
Gill completed the look with pearls, kundan jewellery, and a classic hathphool. Social media users praised the appearance for representing Punjabi culture with specificity rather than broad strokes.
