Rajinikanth’s Coolie Smashes Box Ofiice Records: First Tamil Film to Cross ₹100 Crore in Just 2 Days

Superstar Rajinikanth’s unstoppable momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Following an explosive opening day where his new film Coolie demolished nearly every Kollywood box office benchmark, the second day brought even more excitement for the 74-year-old icon. Like many high-energy South Indian blockbusters, Coolie experienced a slight drop as enthusiastic fan groups made room for family viewers, but the Independence Day holiday kept the momentum strong. Data from Sacnilk indicates that by 9 pm on day two, the movie had raked in ₹40.57 crore net across India.

Breaking down Coolie’s second-day performance, that ₹40.57 crore push elevated its total domestic net earnings to an impressive ₹105.57 crore. This milestone positions Coolie as the inaugural Tamil film to join the ₹100 crore club within a mere two days surpassing predecessors like Leo and 2.0, which hit the mark on their third days. Occupancy dipped somewhat in Tamil and Telugu markets compared to the opener, though the Hindi dubbed version saw a small uptick.

On the global stage, Coolie set new benchmarks with nearly $8 million from international markets on its debut day alone. As reported by its production banner Sun Pictures, this propelled the film’s worldwide gross to ₹151 crore on opening day, marking the highest launch for any Tamil movie ever and ranking seventh among all Indian films.

Helmed by director Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie casts Rajinikanth in the lead, supported by a powerhouse lineup including Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, and a special appearance by Aamir Khan. Critics have offered mixed to favorable feedback, but the fanbase has embraced it wholeheartedly, packing theaters to capacity.
