New Delhi: Aamir Khan’s classic film Lagaan marked its 25th anniversary since its release. The movie was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker in 2001 which is the most celebrated film in Indian cinema. The makers also organised a special screening on Friday in Mumbai which was attended by cast members and notable celebs including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kajol , Juhi Chawla, Rekha, Nikha Khan, Salman Khan and the rest. 

As the film came into the limelight the question revolving the actress Rachel Shelley also popped up who did the character of ‘gori mem’ aka Elizabeth Russell in the movie. The fans got curious to know what she is doing these days.

What is Rachel Shelley from Lagaan doing these days? 

Rachel Shelley has appeared in many notable films and shows throughout her acting career and she was recently seen in a Hindi series in Kohrra. Created by Sudip Sharma , the Hindi crime thriller also stars Braun Sobti, Mona Singh and Suvinder Vicky in main roles. In the show, she performed the role of Clara Murphy, Liam’s Mother and Steve Dhillon’s family friend from the UK. 

Additionally, she was also seen in one of the OTT’s platform in a mystery thriller Young Sherlock where she played the character of Mrs. Tilcott. In the series, key roles are played by star casts like Donal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons and Colin Firth. 

What did Rachel Shelley say on ’25 Years of Lagaan’ ? 

Taking to her instagram account, Rcahel Shelley shared a post where she said, “It’s a really exciting milestone. Sometimes I Feel like it was just yesterday, and other times it feels like another lifetime ago. So thank you to everyone who’s kept it so vibrant and given it so much love over the years. I have to say that as a cast and crew, we make the film, but it’s the audience, by watching it and giving it so much love and support over the years, who complete the film. So thank you for giving us, me, that gift, because it’s with me every day and it’s informed every piece of work I’ve ever done since.” 

About Lagaan Film (2001)

The film Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India focuses on the concept of land tax. It follows the story of villagers in Victorian India who take their future on a game of cricket against an arrogant British commander. In this film, the main lead role was played by Aamir Khan along with Rachel Shelley, Raghubir Yadav, Rajendra Gupta, Dayashankar Pandey, Raj Zutshi and others.
