‘Never Our Intention To Objectify’: Peddi Director Apologises Amid Janhvi Kapoor Role Debate

Mumbai : The makers of Peddi have responded to the growing criticism surrounding the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyamma, with director Buchi Babu Sana issuing a public apology and promising changes to the film.

The controversy gained traction on social media shortly after the film’s release, with several viewers expressing disappointment over the way Janhvi’s character was presented. Many felt that certain scenes focused more on her appearance than her contribution to the story, sparking a wider discussion about the representation of women in mainstream cinema.

Acknowledging the criticism, Sana said that objectifying women was never the intention behind the film. He apologised to those who were hurt or offended by the scenes in question and assured audiences that the feedback had been taken seriously.

The director also confirmed that the team has decided to make edits to the portions that attracted criticism. Stressing that women should always be portrayed with dignity on screen, he said the makers respect the audience’s concerns and are willing to act on them.

The debate has reignited conversations about how female characters are written and portrayed in commercial films. While opinions remain divided, many have welcomed the filmmaker’s decision to address the issue publicly rather than dismiss the criticism.

Peddi, which stars Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles, was released on June 4. As discussions around the film continue, the director’s apology marks an important response to audience feedback and highlights the increasing scrutiny filmmakers face over representation in cinema.
