Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar has made its OTT debut, but viewers are far from happy. The reason behind the disappointment lies in the extensive edits made for the streaming release. Aditya Dhar’s directorial venture had captivated audiences with its memorable songs, stellar performances particularly Akshaye Khanna’s and intense action sequences. Fans who couldn’t catch the film in cinemas were eagerly waiting to stream it, while those who had watched it were looking forward to another viewing. However, what awaited them was frustration over the significant cuts and alterations made for the OTT platform.
The film, which released in theatres on 5 Dec 2025, features Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal in key roles.
DHURANDHAR ON OTT: FANS DISAPPOINTED OVER TRIMS
Following the film’s Netflix release on 30 Jan, viewers quickly noticed discrepancies between the theatrical and streaming versions. The original theatrical cut runs for 3 hours and 34 minutes, making it one of the longest Indian films in 17 years since Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar. On Netflix, however, the runtime stands at 3 hours and 25 minutes, including the post-credit scene. This indicates approximately nine minutes have been removed. Additionally, the OTT version has censored profanities and offensive language, with several dialogues completely muted.
NETIZENS EXPRESS ANGER OVER THE EDITS
Shortly after watching the Netflix version, movie enthusiasts took to social media to voice their frustration. Many questioned the purpose of the film’s A certificate if such heavy censorship was still applied.
One user wrote, “The makers have really betrayed us. If you’re just going to mute everything anyway, then why the hell do you even give an A certificate? Just to get your mother married off or what? 🇮🇳 censorship is a complete joke, nothing else.🖕 you, makers”
Another viewer wrote, “@netflix why have you censored the cuss words in #Dhurandhar? What’s the goddamn point if we can’t enjoy any movie properly? Do you censor cuss words in any english movie? No, right? Then why this discrimination? DISAPPOINTED.”
WHAT IS DHURANDHAR ABOUT?
Inspired by true events, the film follows R Madhavan’s character, Indian intelligence officer Ajay Sanyal, who orchestrates a mission named Dhurandhar. The operation involves deploying undercover agents to Pakistan to penetrate terror camps. Ranveer Singh portrays Jaskirat Singh Rangi, an undercover operative operating under the alias Hamza in the town of Lyari.
Dhurandhar is now available on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
